Kirsten Schwalbe, the oldest living person in Denmark, celebrated her 112th birthday

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mrs. Kirsten Schwalbe, the oldest living person in Denmark, has celebrated her 112th birthday on10 March 2026 in Struer, Midtjylland.
Kirsten Schwalbe was born in Struer, Midtjylland, Denmark on 10 March 1914. She got married in 1938 and had three daughters. Her husband died in 1981. Two of her siblings lived to be 100 and 103. Her brother Bertel was aged 103 as of 2024.
At the age of 104, she developed heart problems and was given a pacemaker. On 10 March 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian, surrounded by her descendants.
She became the oldest living person in Denmark following the death of 110-year-old Karen Rigmor Moritz on 4 April 2024. After the death of 110-year-old Jens Peter Westergaard on 23 July 2024, she became the last living person in Denmark who was born before 1915.
Her age was verified by Dr. Waclaw Jan Kroczek, GRG Correspondent for Poland and Nordic Countries, and validated by the GRG on 15 August 2024.
On 16 November 2024, following the death of 112-year-old Agnes Boström of Sweden, she became the oldest living person in the Nordic countries.
On 10 March 2025, she celebrated her 111th birthday, becoming the 8th Danish born person to do so. And on 10 March 2025, she celebrated her 112th birthday, becoming the 3rd Danish born person to reached this age [the others being Christian Mortensen (who died in USA) and Karla Lindholm Jensen].
Kirsten Schwalbe currently lives in Struer, Midtjylland, Denmark at the age of 112. She still lives in her own house, is able to take care of herself, and remains lively, cheerful, and energetic, always saying something interesting.
