Marcelle Demorgny, the second-oldest living person in France, celebrated her 113th birthday
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mrs. Marcelle Solange Demorgny (née Pressac), the second-oldest living person in France, has celebrated her 113th birthday on 10 March 2026 in Turgon, Charente, Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Marcelle Demorgny was born as Marcelle Solange Pressac in the commune of Turgon, Charente Department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, on 10 March 1913. As a child, she walked three kilometers to school and back every day in wooden shoes. She was awarded her certificat d’études primaires at the age of 12 and went on to work as a chambermaid in Charente and later Paris.
At some point, she married a man with the surname Demorgny and had five children, all of whom she outlived between 2014 and 2017. In 1959, she briefly met then-US President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Paris.
On 10 March 2013, she celebrated her 100th birthday, becoming a centenarian. She was first noted for her longevity at the age of 106, when she, along with two other centenarians, had a short biography published in a newspaper article. On her 108th birthday, she was visited by Benoît Gagnadour, the mayor of Champagne-Mouton. At the age of 108, Demorgny enjoyed going for walks with her friend Janine Rousseau. She would stay at Rousseau’s house for several nights every week and lived independently the rest of the time.
On 10 March 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
Her age was verified by GRG-France Correspondent Sylvain Grosgeorge, and validated by the GRG on 23 January 2024.
On 10 June 2024, following the death of 112-year-old Augusta Oteiza of Pyrénées-Atlantique, she became the oldest living person in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Marcelle Demorgny currently lives in Champagne-Mouton, Charente, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, at the age of 113. She is currently the second-oldest living person in France, after Madeleine Dellamonica of Île-de-France, who is also 113.
