Second-oldest person in the US passes away at 114

The Gerontology Research Group is saddened to relay news of the passing of the second-oldest living person in the United States.
Bonita Bell Spear was born in Kansas on July 4 1911 and married Kenneth Gibson in 1930. They had one son together and moved to Idaho for many years. After her husband’s passing she moved to Michigan.
Bonita became a supercentenarian in July 2021 and went on to have a further four birthdays – an incredible achievement.
She passed away in Michigan on March 10 2026 at the age of 114 years, 249 days.
The GRG extends its sympathies to the family, friends and all who knew Bonita as they navigate their loss.
