Biography

Karen Rigmor Moritz was born in Nørresundby, Aalborg, Nordjylland Region, Denmark on 15 August 1913. Her father, a city gardener in Aalborg, was credited with designing the city’s Zoo and the Kildeparken public park.

Married to Sven Moritz, a lawyer, public prosecutor, and former police chief, they had three children and represented Aalborg at numerous official events. Later in life, at the age of 100, Rigmor adopted a vegan lifestyle, but the nursing home staff advised a return to a diet including meat for additional protein to maintain a healthy weight.

Her granddaughter, Vibeke Hartkorn, is a Danish journalist and former TV Avisen studio host.

Following the death of 109-year-old Else Rehling on 22 January 2022, Rigmor became the oldest living person in Denmark.

In August 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
