Biography
Karla Lindholm Jensen was born as Karla Johanne Christine Lindholm in Herning, Midtjylland, Denmark on 7 May 1908 to parents Hans Joergensen Lindholm and Helfrida Nielsine Christensen.
She married Ejner Jensen in 1934. The couple had a stillborn daughter not long after their marriage, and later adopted their two children in the 1940s: Anne-Lykke (1944–2014) and Hans-Boy (born in 1948). Her daughter Anne-Lykke died from cancer in 2014.
When she was 109, she still was able to read the newspapers, do the dishes, and do crossword puzzles.
Later life
Karla Lindholm Jensen became the oldest known living person in Denmark, following the death of 111-year-old Ellen Brandenborg on 22 July 2017.
She became the oldest known living Danish-born person, following the death of 110-year-old Ulla Lund on 23 August 2017.
She became the oldest known living person in the Nordic Countries, following the death of 111-year-old Carl Mattsson of Sweden on 24 July 2019.
On 20 November 2019, surpassing the age of Ellen Brandenborg, she became the oldest known person ever to live in Denmark, at the age of 111 years, 197 days.
On 16 February 2020, Lindholm Jensen became the last known surviving person in the Nordic region born in the 1900s decade, following the death of 110-year-old Marie Andersen of Norway.
On 7 May 2020, she became the first Danish woman to turn 112 years old, and the first Danish-born person to do so since Christian Mortensen in 1994.
Karla Lindholm Jensen died in Herning, Midtjylland, Denmark on 10 December 2020, at the age of 112 years, 217 days. She was the last known surviving Danish person born in the 1900s decade, and is also one of only three Nordic people (all women) known to have been born in the 1900s decade and die in the 2020s decade (the others are Marie Andersen of Norway (29 September 1909 – 16 February 2020) and Saara Ahonen of Finland (24 November 1909 – 29 May 2020).
