Bruno Kant, the oldest known living man in Germany, dies at 110

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is sadden to reported that Mrs. Bruno Kant, the oldest known living man in Germany, sadly passed away in Eichenzell, Hesse on 29 May 2026 at the final age of 110 years and 92 days.

Bruno Kant was born in Werblin, Kashubia, Prussia, German Empire (now Poland), on 26 February 1916.

During the Second World War he was drafted into the Wehrmacht. He became a Soviet captive, being released in 1948. In 1950, after the war, he was ordained as a priest, a dream he had apparently had since the age of nine. Bruno was active as a priest until the age of 100, now taking a quieter role.

On 1 November 2025, following the death of 110-year-old Karl Haidle in Baden-Wuerttemberg, he became the oldest known living WWII veteran and man in Germany.

On 26 February 2026, he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian and received congratulations from the Pope. He has been the last living man in Germany born in 1916 since the death of Paul Philipp on 11 July 2024. He became the last German man born in 1916 following the death of Jules Kohler, who had been residing in France, on 21 November 2024.

His age was verified by GRG-Poland Correspondent Dr. Wacław Jan Kroczek, and validated by the GRG on 9 March 2026.

Bruno Kant had been a priest for 76 years when he passed away in Eichenzell, Hesse, Germany, on 29 May 2026, at the age of 110 years and 92 days. Following his death, then 108-year-old anonymous person (born 5 October 1917) who resides in North Rhine-Westphalia became the oldest known living man in Germany.
