Jesús Redondo Bermejo, the oldest known living man in Spain, celebrated his 111th birthday

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mr. Jesús Redondo Bermejo, the oldest known living man in Spain, has celebrated his 111th birthday on 2 June 2026 in Cáceres, Extremadura.

Jesús Redondo Bermejo was born in Cañaveral, Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain, on 2 June 1916. At the age of 19, he decided to become a civil servant. In addition, he also completed his military service in Valladolid, where he experienced the uprising of 1936. Later, he married to Concepción (who died around 2020 at the age of 99), and the couple had three children: Desi, Ángela, and Jacinto.

In 1976, while the country was experiencing the Transition, Jesús retired at the age of 61 after 42 years dedicated to the town hall of his locality.

Already at an advanced age, Jesús moved at 102 to an assisted living residence in Cáceres, where he was able to further his passion for reading. “I have read more than 1,000 books,” he stated.

During COVID-19 pandemic, Jesús had lost his mobility and now admits that his days are becoming more monotonous. “Now I can’t walk, but when I could walk, I used to go for walks in the garden,” he noted.

Despite Jesús’ advanced age, he has became a true icon in his region, being nicknamed ‘The Grandfather of Extremadura’ in 2023. On his 110th birthday in June 2025, he became a supercentenarian, and even received a visit from the president, María Guardiola.

Jesús’ age was verified by GRG-Poland Correspondent Dr. Wacław Jan Kroczek, and listed as pending validation since 5 October 2025.

On 29 October 2025, following the death of 111-year-old Luis Carrasco-Muñoz Pérez de la Isla of Madrid, Jesús became the oldest known living man in Spain.

Jesús Redondo Bermejo currently lives in Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain at the age of 111. He currently has two living children, seven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
