The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mrs. María del Pilar Salinas Zelaya, the oldest known living person and the oldest known person ever in Honduras, celebrated her 112th birthday in Catacamas, Olancho, on 12 October 2026. Maria del Pilar Salinas Zelaya was born in Gualaco, Olancho, Honduras, on 12 October 1914, to parents Andres Salinas and Maria de Jesus Zelaya. She was then baptized on 18 June 1916 in San Jeronimo, Gualaco. Maria del Pilar never married, but had 14 children (10 of whom are still living). Edna Ellynore Moum was born as Edna Ellynore Gundersen in Arendal, Aust-Agder County, Norway, on 12 October 1915 (claimed 10 October), to parents Harald Johan and Kristiane (née Andersen) Gundersen.
