María del Pilar Salinas Zelaya, the oldest known person ever in Honduras, celebrates her 112th birthday
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mrs. María del Pilar Salinas Zelaya, the oldest known living person and the oldest known person ever in Honduras, celebrated her 112th birthday in Catacamas, Olancho, on 12 October 2026.
Maria del Pilar Salinas Zelaya was born in Gualaco, Olancho, Honduras, on 12 October 1914, to parents Andres Salinas and Maria de Jesus Zelaya. She was then baptized on 18 June 1916 in San Jeronimo, Gualaco.
Maria del Pilar never married, but had 14 children (10 of whom are still living).
On 12 October 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
On 22 March 2026, her age was officially validated by the GRG, verified by GRG-France Correspondent Sylvain Grosgeorge.
Maria del Pilar Salinas Zelaya currently lives in Catacamas, Olancho, Honduras, at the age of 112.
Longevity records
On 5 February 2024, following the death of 111-year-old Maria Victorina Cevallos (22 October 1912 – 5 February 2024, who died in California, USA), she became the oldest known living Honduran-born woman.
On 7 September 2024, following the death of 110-year-old José Ángel Flores Vallecillo, she became the oldest known living person in Honduras.
On 21 May 2025, she surpassed the age of Isabel Güell Padilla (15 Ocotber 1910 – 23 May 2021) of 110 years and 220 days, becoming the oldest known person to have ever lived in Honduras.
On 26 July 2026, she surpassed the age of Elvira Torres (27 June 1914 – 9 April 2026) of 111 years and 286 days, becoming the oldest known person ever from Honduras.
On 12 October 2026, she celebrated her 112th birthday, became the first known person ever in Honduras to have reached the age of 112.
The GRG extends warm congratulations to Mrs. Maria del Pilar Salinas Zelaya on her 112th birthday.
