Major Jewel McDonald, the oldest known living man in the USA, dies at 110

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is saddened to reported that Mr. Major Jewel McDonald, the oldest known living man in the USA, sadly passed away in Louisville, Mississippi on 4 October 2026 at the final age of 110 years and 337 days.

Major Jewel McDonald was born in Louisville, Winston County, Mississippi, USA, on 1 November 1915, to parents Henry and Georgia McDonald.

He moved to Ohio at some point, spending many years there, before moving back to Louisville, Mississippi. Major was married several times and has several children.

On 16 December 2023, following the death of 110-year-old Johnnie Collier (2 September 1913 – 16 December 2023, age unvalidated), he became the oldest known living man in the U.S. state of Mississippi.

On 1 November 2025, he celebrated his 110th birthday with family and friends, becoming a supercentenarian. The following day, his age was officially validated by the GRG, verified by Oliver Trim and Dr. Wacław Jan Kroczek.

On 24 July 2026, following the death of 111-year-old Edwin Martin of Florida, he became the oldest known living man in the USA.

Major Jewel McDonald passed away at his home in Louisville, Mississippi, USA, on 4 October 2026, at the age of 110 years and 337 days. Following his death, then 110-year-old James Clayton Flowers (born 25 December 1915) of New Mexico became the oldest known living man in the USA, while then 107-year-old Taylor Howard (born 12 October 1918) became the oldest known living man in the U.S. state of Mississippi.
