Emma Kmet, the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Ohio, dies at 111

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is sadden to reported that Mrs. Emma Blanche Kmet (née Demian), the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Ohio, sadly passed away in Strongsville, Cuyahoga County on 9 July 2026 at the final age of 111 years and 159 days.
Emma Kmet was born as Emma Blanche Demian in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA, on 31 January 1915, to parents Paul and Susana Demian.
On 20 November 1941, she married Edward Kmet and went on to have at least three children. Edward sadly died in 1995, after which Emma never remarried.
On 12 November 2024, following the death of 110-year-old Hattie Harshaw of Franklin County, she became the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Ohio.
On 31 January 2025, she celebrated her 110th birthday, gaining status as a supercentenarian.
Her age was verified by GRG-UK Correspondent Oliver Trim, and validated by the GRG on 1 February 2025, the day after her 110th birthday.
Emma Kmet died in a care facility in Strongsville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA, on 9 July 2026, at the age of 111 years and 159 days. Following her death, then 110-year-old Madeline Bamberger Debord (born 3 November 1915) of Cincinnati, Hamilton County became the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Ohio.
