Chiyono Eguchi, the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture, dies at 111

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is sadden to report the death of Mrs. Chiyono Eguchi (江口チヨノ), the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, sadly passed away in Agano City on 6 April 2026 at the age of 111 years and 329 days.
Chiyono Eguchi was born in Japan on 12 May 1914.
On 12 May 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
On 3 September 2025, following the death of 111-year-old Toyo Kondō (近藤豊) of Sanjō City, she became the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture.
Her age was verified by Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, Japan and Brian Hsu, then validated by the GRG on 7 October 2025.
Chiyono Eguchi passed away in Agano City, Niigata Prefecture, on 6 April 2026, at the age of 111 years and 329 days. Following her death, then 110-year-old Setsuko Sakata (坂田節子, born 23 December 1915) became the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture.
