Ioana Lungu, the second-oldest living woman in Romania, celebrated her 110th birthday

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mrs. Ioana Lungu, the second-oldest living woman in Romania, has celebrated her 110th birthday on 7 April 2026 in Grozești, Mehedinți County.
Ioana Lungu was born in the town of Şusița, Mehedinți County, Romania, on 7 April 1916. She was married to the late Ion Lungu, a war veteran who died on the front in World War II. They had three children: a daughter and two sons.
On 7 April 2026, Lungu celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian, an age that inspires respect and admiration. Representatives of the Military Center and the Country Council were present at the event.
On this occasion, Lungu was presented with an honorary diploma, as a sign of high esteem and deep gratitude for a life lived with dignity, for the trials and sacrifices endured in difficult times, and for the example she offers to that day’s generations.
Ioana Lungu currently lives in a village in Grozești, Mehedinți County, Romania, at the age of 110. She’s currently the oldest living person in Mehedinți County, as well as the second-oldest living woman in Romania, after Paladia Noja, and the fourth-oldest living person in Romania, after Ilie Ciocan, Noja, and Iosif Rus.
