Juan Vicente Pérez Mora, world’s oldest living man, dies at 114
Gerontology Research Group is saddened to report news that Mr. Juan Vicente Pérez Mora, world’s oldest living man, sadly died in San Jose De Bolivar, Tachira, Venezuela on 2 April 2024 at the age of 114 years, 311 days, which was also confirmed by Guinness World Records (GWR), Robert Young and Freddy Bernal, the governor of Táchira, Venezuela, where Juan lived. President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela also paid tribute, writing: “Juan Vicente Pérez Mora has transcended into eternity at 114 years old.
Juan Vicente Pérez Mora was born in El Cobre, Tachira, Venezuela on 27 May 1909 to parents Euquitio Perez and Edelmira Mora.
On 4 October 2015, following the death of 107-year-old Jose Gregorio Brito Riera, he became the oldest known living man and person in Venezuela.
In May 2019, he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming the first male supercentenarian in Venezuela.
Juan Vicente became the oldest living man following the death of 112-year-old Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia of Spain on 18 January 2022. He was announced as the oldest living man in the world at the age of 112 years, 253 days on 4 February 2022.
Following the death of 113-year-old Efraín Antonio Ríos García of Colombia on 11 January 2024, he became the last surviving man born before 1911. After the death of 112-year-old Gisaburō Sonobe of Japan on 31 March 2024, he became the last surviving man born before 1911.
At the time of his death, he was the second-oldest validated living person in South America, behind Inah Canabarro Lucas, and the fourth-oldest living person in the world whose age is validated, behind Maria Branyas Morera, Tomiko Itooka and Inah Canabarro Lucas.
According to the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and Guinness World Records (GWR), the new oldest man living is currently being confirmed.
