Eleze Waesche (1867-1977) validation

The GRG announces the age validation of Elizabeth Fitzhugh Waesche, formerly Crawford, nee Henry, known as Eleze or Lizzie to those who knew her. Eleze was born February 9th 1867 to Edward and Mary Henry, in Fauquier County, Virginia, USA. On November 6th 1902, Eleze married Theophilus Gamble Crawford. By 1930 she was widowed – they had had no children together. On August 16th 1932 Eleze married Henry Theodore Waesche in Richmond, Virginia. She had two step-children from this marriage. Henry sadly died on December 5th 1955, after which Eleze did not remarry. Eleze herself passed away on March 9th 1977, aged 110 years, 28 days, in a nursing home in Silver Spring, Montgomery County, Maryland. Later in life, it appears that she claimed birth in 1868 and 1869. Her SSDI shows a birth date of February 9th 1869 and her obituary would imply a birth date of February 9th 1868. However, after discovering a birth record and looking at all the evidence, it is seen without doubt that Eleze was born February 9th 1867.

Eleze’s age was verified by Daniel Gonik, myself, et al and later accepted by the GRG as validated with a retroactive date of November 18th 2016.
