The GRG announces the age validation of Ferdeline Vergelas-Tamarin. Here follows a short biography from our correspondent for France, Sylvain Grosgeorge :
Ferdeline Vergelas-Tamarin was born June 1st 1903 in Petit-Canal, Grand-Terre Island, Guadeloupe, France. Her mother was Emilienne Tamarin, a 37 year old farmer, an unwed woman.
Auguste Vergelas was officially recognised as her father on May 16th 1915.
She had at least 6 half-brother and half-sisters.
She had eight children, which is quite rare for a supercentenarian.
Ferdeline died on August 13th 2013, aged 110 years, 73 days in Guadeloupe.
Her age was verified by Martin Miet and Sylvain Grosgeorge, later accepted as valid with a retroactive date of April 7th 2016.
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is a global non-profit dedicated to validating, recording, and researching supercentenarians — those aged 110 or older. Founded in 1990, we focus on human longevity, healthy aging, and studying the lives of the world’s oldest people.
Our work requires significant funding for research, travel, and maintaining our website. Any financial support would greatly aid our mission to advance the understanding of human longevity.
If you wish to support our research financially, please donate to our efforts, but only if you can afford it. We would greatly appreciate even a symbolic support. Thank you!
