Andre Ludwig (1912-present) validation

The GRG announces today the age validation of Andre Ludwig of France. Andre was born June 6th 1912 in La Ferte-sous-Jouarre, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France, France. He never knew his parents, as he was raised by a grandmother. In 1935 he married Yvonne and went on to have a daughter, who he unfortunately has not seen since she was 20. In 1939, Andre was mobilized for the war, but by 1940 was captured and taken prisoner in Poland. In 1942 he managed to escape but was caught again. He ended up in a labor camp in Germany, from which he also escaped. Andre then joined the French resistance. He worked after the war, retiring in 1972. He became a widower when he was 100 years old, continuing to live alone until moving to a nursing home in 2017.

Andre has been the oldest known living man in France since December 2022. He also holds the title of oldest known living man in Europe and oldest known living Second World War veteran.

His age was verified by Sylvain Grosgeorge, correspondent for France, later accepted by the GRG on December 18th 2023.
