The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mrs. Jeanne Vandenplas, the oldest known living person in Belgium, has celebrated her 110th birthday on 27 June 2026 in Herent, Flemish Brabant. Jeanne Vandenplas was born in Wijgmaal, Flemish Brabant, Belgium, on 27 June 1916. She was the youngest daughter in a family of 15 children. At a fairly young age, she met her husband, Leon Moelants. He was the son of a liqueur merchant in Wijgmaal and a good student. He obtained a doctorate in chemistry at the then French-speaking Université Catholique de Louvain. Manuel Martínez Milán was born in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, on 18 June 1916. He is a musician, tireless worker, and a great role model. At some point, she married to Delia Martínez Álamo, and the couple had 5 children together, inculding the youngest child, William, was born in 1956. The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is sadden to reported that Mrs. Alice Martha Hootman (née Black), the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Iowa, sadly passed away in Sigourney, Keokuk County on 11 June 2026 at the final age of 110 years and 136 days. Alice Hootman was born as Alice Martha Black in Penn, Jefferson County, Iowa, USA, on 26 January 1916, to parents Charles Joseph and Katie (née Collett, later Lovedy) Black. On 13 February 1932, she married Arthur Claire Hootman and went on to have at least three children together. Arthur passed away on 6 October 1986, after which Alice never remarried. Bernabé Córdoba was born Guanacaste province, Costa Rica, on 11 June 1915 to Carolina Córdoba. He was baptized on 19 December 1915. Later, he married Ofelia Villegas Vargas and reportedly had two children together. On 20 January 2024, following the death of 110-year-old Juan Gabriel Hernández Matamoros of Heredia, he became the oldest known living man in Costa Rica. Elizabeth Ramshaw was born as Elizabeth May Dickerhoof in Junction Township, Michigan Valley, Osage County, Kansas, USA, on March 23 1916, to parents John William and Lulu Belle (née Thompson) Dickerhoof. In August 1941, she married George Millard Ramshaw in Michigan Valley. They went on to have at least one child together – a son.
