Susana Gutierrez Godoy (1910-2024)
The GRG is saddened to report the death of Susana Gutierrez Godoy. Born May 24th 1910 in Mexico, Susana married twice. She married first at age 21 in 1932 but was widowed in 1933. She married again in 1939 at age 29. Susana had one child, a daughter, that sadly died at 3 months of age. She had no more children after this. Susana was very independent and active, still cooking for herself at age 100. She passed away in a care facility in Mexico, in the same town she was born in, on January 5th 2024, aged 113 years, 226 days. Susana was the oldest known living person in…
Mary Erskine (1884-1995) validation
The GRG announces the validation of Mary Caroline Erskine, nee Williams. Mary was born in Honea Path, Anderson County, South Carolina, USA, on September 21st 1884. On July 7th 1915, Mary married William Arthur Erskine and they went on to have three children – one of which sadly died at the age of 5. In her working life, Mary was a milliner and then a seamstress. She spent her entire life living in South Carolina. Until six months before her passing, Mary had been active and in good health – the last six months she suffered from an undisclosed illness. Mary died on October 10th 1995, aged 111 years, 19…
Ruth Andreasen (1903-2013) validation
The GRG announces the age validation of Ruth Mildred Andreasen, nee Poppen. Ruth was born February 8th 1903 in Parkersburg, Butler County, Iowa, USA. When she was 6 the family moved to Minnesota, where she lived for the remainder of her life. On March 18th 1923, Ruth married James George Andreasen – a First World War veteran, and went on to have three children. The couple became farmers, doing this until they both retired in 1969. The validation of Masu Usui, 113, of Shizuoka Prefecture
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) announces the validation of Mrs. Masu Usui, 113, of Shizuoka Prefecture Japan. Masu Usui was born in Oyama, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan on 18 December 1910. In September 2016, she was recognized as the oldest living person in Oyama City. In December 2020, Usui celebrated her 110th birthday, reaching supercentenarian status. By November 2021, she was acknowledged as the third-oldest known living person in Shizuoka Prefecture, following Kahoru Furuya and Hana Kato. Upon the passing of 114-year-old Kahoru Furuya on 25 December 2022, Usui assumed the title of the oldest living person in Shizuoka Prefecture. Herbert Wolding (1912-2023) validation
The GRG announces the age validation of Herbert Wolding. Herbert O Wolding, known as Herb, was born in Portage County, Wisconsin, USA, on October 15th 1912. On July 20th 1934, Herbert married Evelyn Henke and they went on to have two sons. They had a very long marriage, ending when Evelyn passed away in April 2011. In 1935, Herbert started a milk delivery business, which is still in operation today – Herbert was still visiting the office at the age of 106! Herbert passed away on November 17th 2023 at age 111 years, 33 days. He died in the same county of Wisconsin he was born in. Herbert’s age was…
