The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is saddened to reported that Mrs. Ilse Gertrud Meingast, the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of California, sadly passed away in Cotati on 23 August 2026 at the final age of 114 years and 162 days. Ilse Meingast was born in Berlin, German Empire (now Germany) on 14 March 1912. In her 30s, she moved to California, USA. She worked as a seamstress. She had three children, including Ruth Mewes (aged 88 in March 2021). On 12 March 2021, aged 108, Meingast got vaccinated against COVID-19, making her one of the oldest people to receive the vaccine. Maria da Conceição de Brito was born in São Romão, Faro District, Portugal, on 31 December 1912 (claimed 22 December). The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mrs. Erika Strohrigel, the oldest known living person in Austria, celebrated her 110th birthday in Hartberg, Styria, on 18 August 2026. Erika Strohrigel was born in Preßguts, Styria, Austria, on 18 August 1916. Her life took her from Preßguts to Vienna, where she trained to be a teacher. In the early 1940s, Strohrigel returned to Styria and built a house in Hartberg with her second husband. She had a son. She did not move into a retirement home until the age of 100. Ted Price was born in Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada, on 14 August 1916, to parents Joseph Leslie and Ida Blanche (née Edmonds) Price. On 9 September 1939, he married Doris Kathryn Sweeney (28 December 1916 – 25 April 2006) in Etobicoke, York County, Ontario, going on to have four children together.
