Ines Sommovigo, a beacon of resilience and wisdom, graced the world with her presence on 6 November 1911 in La Spezia, Liguria, Italy. Her journey through more than a century has been marked by love, family, and an indomitable spirit.
Married to Renzo Majoli, Ines faced the heart-wrenching loss of their first child at the age of four due to a tragic incident. Despite the challenges, their family grew to include sons Angelo and Mario, each adding unique chapters to Ines’s rich tapestry of life.
In the face of the unprecedented challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ines Sommovigo, at an age where many might shy away from technology, embraced the use of a tablet for video calls, fostering connections with her loved ones.
In a testament to her strength, Ines battled and conquered COVID-19 after contracting the virus sometime after her 109th birthday, becoming one of the oldest known survivors of the disease.
November 2021 marked the celebration of her 110th birthday, a joyous occasion attended by the mayor of La Spezia, Pierluigi Peracchini.
Ines Sommovigo died in La Spezia, Liguria, Italy on 16 March 2024 at the age of 112 years, 131 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Liguria and the third-oldest known living person in Italy, behind Claudia Baccarini and Lucia Laura Sangenito.
