The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that Mr. William “Bill” Morgan, the second-oldest known living man in Australia, celebrated his 111th birthday in Melbourne, Victoria, on 23 October 2026.

Bill Morgan was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 23 October 1915, to parents John and Jean Morgan. As a young boy, he quickly developed a passion for sports, and it was not long before he became enamoured with his local VFL team, the Footscray Bulldogs.

During Bill’s time at Scottish College, he served as president of the student council and was also an outstanding athlete, captaining the school’s rowing team and playing center for the 18th men’s rugby team. His athletic talents continued to grow, and while studying at the University of Melbourne, he represented Victoria in rugby.

After completing his studies, he was ordained a pastor at Malvern Presbyterian Church on 24 April 1944, and served as pastor in churches in South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania.

Bill was married twice, first to Joan Howie in 1948 and then to Jessie Herman some time after Joan’s passing. He has outlived both wives. He has at least three children: Heather, John, and Libby.

Bill was an ordained minister for 40 years, before retiring in 1984. After this, he continued in pastoral duties in the church for the next 20 years.

As of August 2024, he had 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

On 23 October 2025, Bill celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian. The following day, his age was officially validated by the GRG, verified by GRG-UK Correspondent Oliver Trim.

Bill Morgan currently lives in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, at the age of 111. He is currently the oldest known living man in Victoria, and the second-oldest known living man in Australia, after Ken Weeks of New South Wales.

The GRG extends warm congratulations to Mr. Bill Morgan on his 111th birthday.
