Sumiko Taki, the oldest living person in Aichi Prefecture, dies at 111
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is sadden to reported that Mrs. Sumiko Taki (滝壽美子), the oldest living person in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, sadly passed away in Kōnan City (江南市), Aichi Prefecture on 22 February 2026 at the final age of 111 years and 83 days.
Sumiko Taki was born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, on 1 Decmber 1914 (Taishō 3). She lived through four eras: Taishō, Shōwa, Heisei, and Reiwa.
On 1 December 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
On 20 May 2025, following the death of 114-year-old Mine Kondō (近藤ミネ, who was also the oldest living person in Japan) of Kōta Town (幸田町), she became the oldest living person in Aichi Prefecture.
Her age was verified by Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, Japan and Brian Hsu, and validated by the GRG on 12 October 2025.
Sumiko Taki passed away in Kōnan City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, at 10:38 PM on 22 February 2026, at the age of 111 years and 83 days. Her funeral will be held on 25 February 2026. Following her death, then 111-year-old anonymous person of Nagoya City (名古屋市) became the oldest living person in Aichi Prefecture.
