Hazel Schultz (1913-2025)

The Gerontology Research Group is saddened to announce the passing of Hazel Schultz.

Hazel Mary Anthony was born January 12 1913 in Mozart, Saskatchewan, Canada to Clarence and Dagmar Anthony. Her father lived to 98 years of age, while her mother lived to 101.

Hazel moved to the US with her family in 1922, first settling in Washington State. She married Herbert Schultz in 1941 and went on to have three children together.

Hazel credited her longevity to ‘good Scandinavian genes and positive living’. Longevity would seem to run in her family, given the ages of her parents. Hazel eventually lived in Idaho, where she passed away at the end of May 2025, aged 112. She was the oldest known living Canadian-born person before her passing.

The GRG extends condolences to her family, friends and all who knew her. According to reports, Hazel ‘left a sparkle wherever she went’.
