Naomi Whitehead, Pennsylvania’s oldest living person, celebrated her 114th birthday

The Gerontology Research Group is pleased to announce that Mrs. Naomi Whitehead, the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and the second-oldest living person in the United States, celebrated her 114th birthday in Greenville, Pennsylvania, USA on 26 September 2024.

Naomi Whitehead was born as Naomi Washington in Georgia, USA on 26 September 1910. She married Sylvester Whitehead and couple had three sons: Parrish, Elbert and Sylvester. She outlived all of her children, and her last surviving son died in 2011.

As of her 110th birthday in 2020, Whitehead had 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 49 great-greatgrandchildren, and three great-great-great-grandchildren.

On 22 August 2022, following the death of 111-year-old Lenara Carey, she became the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

On 24 January 2024, following the death of 113-year-old E. D. of Arizona, Whitehead became the last surviving American person born in 1910.

As of her 114th birthday, she is the second-oldest living person in the United States, behind 115-year-old Elizabeth Francis, and the eighth-oldest living person in the world whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group.
