Biography
Elizabeth Francis was born in St Mary Parish, Louisiana, USA, on July 25 1909 to parents John and Virginia (nee Matthews) Francis.
In the 1920’s she moved to Texas, initially living with her older sister. She had one child – a daughter – and may have briefly been married to the father, Jessie Jones. Elizabeth never married again, however.
In July 2019 she celebrated her 110th birthday, gaining status as a supercentenarian. This was to be the first of six such occasions.
Elizabeth passed away in Houston, Harris County, Texas, on October 22 2024, aged 115 years, 89 days. At the time, her daughter was still living at 96 years of age. Elizabeth was the oldest known and age-validated person living in the US before her passing.
