Shi Ping posthumously becomes the oldest validated man ever in China and candidate for the Guinness World Records’ WORLD’S OLDEST MAN title
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce the validation of Shi Ping as the first officially recognized supercentenarian in China. This milestone marks a significant achievement in the field of longevity research and age validation.
Shi Ping was born in Dayao County, Yunnan, China on 1 November 1911. Over the years, he has witnessed remarkable changes in her country and the world. His life story is a testament to resilience, adaptation, and the strength of the human spirit.
Validation process:
The validation of Shi Ping’s age was conducted in strict accordance with the GRG’s scientific standards for age verification, as outlined by Dr. Michel Poulain. This rigorous process involves three key phases of evidence collection:
- Early-Life Evidence:
- Birth certificate or equivalent documentation.
- Historical records corroborating birth date and early life events.
- Middle-Life Evidence:
- Marriage records, employment records, and other significant life events.
- Witness accounts from contemporaries who can attest to her age.
- Late-Life Evidence:
- Recent medical records, identification documents, and government-issued IDs.
- Interviews with family members and local officials.
Throughout this comprehensive validation process, Shi Ping’s age has been verified through meticulous cross-referencing of various historical and contemporary records. The GRG team worked closely with local authorities, family members, and historians to ensure the highest level of accuracy and reliability in this validation.
Recognition:
The GRG’s recognition of Shi Ping as a validated supercentenarian not only honors his incredible longevity but also highlights the importance of thorough scientific validation in the study of human aging. This recognition serves as an inspiration to researchers and the public, emphasizing the potential for longevity and the importance of preserving accurate historical records.
Shi Ping’s age was verified by Brian Hsu, Dr. Shi Yigong and Shi Ping’s family members, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 4 August 2024. Upon the validation of Shi Ping, he has been retrospectively recognized as the WORLD’S OLDEST MAN following the death of 114-year old Juan Vicente Perez Mora of Venezuela. He was the last surviving man born in 1911. Following his death, then 111-year-old John Tinniswood, became the oldest living man in the world. Shi Ping’s is thus also the candidate for the Guinness World Records’ World’s Oldest Man title.
Conclusion:
Shi Ping’s validation as the one of the first supercentenarians in China is a landmark achievement for the GRG and the global scientific community. His life story enriches our understanding of longevity and provides valuable insights into the factors contributing to a long and healthy life. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Shi Ping and her family on this momentous occasion.
The GRG remains committed to advancing the field of gerontology through rigorous scientific validation and recognition of supercentenarians worldwide. We look forward to continuing our work in uncovering the secrets of human longevity and celebrating the lives of those who reach extraordinary ages.
