Maria Branyas Morera of Spain, 117, becomes the eight oldest person in history

Maria Branyas Morera has reached the age of 117 years and 138 days. She has surpassed the final age of Emma Morano and become the eighth-oldest validated person ever and the third-oldest European ever.

The world’s oldest person, Maria Branyas, became the eighth longest-living person ever on Saturday, according to the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). Born in 1907 in San Francisco, she is 117 years and 138 days old, surpassing Italian Emma Morano. She is now the third-longest living European in documented history. Maria Branyas has resided at Santa Maria del Tura in Olot for over two decades. She has memories of both World War I and the Spanish Civil War, and in 2020, she survived COVID-19 at 113.
