Jan van Ierland, the oldest living Dutch-born person celebrated his 110th birthday

Gerontology Research Group is pleased to announce that Mr. Jan van Ierland, the oldest living Dutch-born person and the second-oldest living person in the Netherlands, celebrated his 110th birthday on 5 May 2024 in Bloemendaal, North Holland, Netherlands.

Joannes Franciscus Alphonsus Aloysius van Ierland was born in Tilburg, North Brabant, Netherlands on 5 May 1914.

Jan van Ireland is a versatile person and is a physical engineer by training. Later in life he studied psychology, took up drawing and has been playing the piano very well since he was a child. He now enjoys listening to classical music and still plays the piano every day.

He became the oldest known living Dutch-born man, following the death of 109-year-old Eelke Bakker on 3 May 2020.

Following the death of 111-year-old Marina van der Es-Siewers on 11 March 2024, he became the oldest living Dutch-born person.

At this moment, 5 May 2024, Mr. Jan van Ierland is the second oldest living man and person in the Netherlands, just after Mr. John Huang, born 1 February 1914 in Vietnam, who lives in Hilversum, North Holland, Netherlands at the age of 110. This is the first time in Dutch history that two 110-year-old men live in the Netherlands at the same time, confirmed by our GRG Correspondent for the Netherlands Mr. Gert Jan Kuiper.
