The GRG announces the age validation of Dorothy Gwendoline Payne, nee Attenborough, known as Gwen to family and friends. Gwen was born August 5th 1907 in Bromley, London, England. Dorothy married John Payne in 1939 and they went on to have two children – both sons. In 1946 the family moved to Sevenoaks, Kent, where Gwen lived for the rest of her long life. John sadly passed away in 1961, leaving Gwen a widow. She passed away on October 15th 2019, aged 112 years, 71 days. Gwen was the oldest living person in England before her death, although not the oldest living British person, as Phyllis Ridgway – born in the UK – was older and living in Canada.
Gwen’s age was verified by myself, later accepted as valid by the GRG on July 15th 2023.
The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is a global non-profit dedicated to validating, recording, and researching supercentenarians — those aged 110 or older. Founded in 1990, we focus on human longevity, healthy aging, and studying the lives of the world’s oldest people.
Our work requires significant funding for research, travel, and maintaining our website. Any financial support would greatly aid our mission to advance the understanding of human longevity.
If you wish to support our research financially, please donate to our efforts, but only if you can afford it. We would greatly appreciate even a symbolic support. Thank you!
