The validation of Mary Keir of Wales, UK

The Gerontology Research Group is delighted to announce the validation of Mrs. Mary Keir of the United Kingdom.
Mary Keir was born in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK on 3 March 1912. She later lived in Llansteffan, Carmarthenshire, Wales. She worked as a ward sister at Llandough Hospital in Penarth, Wales. In either 2011 or 2012, Keir moved into a care home in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Coincidentally, another supercentenarian Gwenllian Davies (1905–2016) was also a resident of the same home. On 17 December 2020 at 2.30pm, Keir received her first dose of the Pfizer/BionTech vaccine, making her one of the first care home residents in Wales to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Keir became the oldest known living person in Wales, following the death of 110-year-old Amy Hawkins on 9 September 2021, as well as the oldest known living person born in Wales, following the death of Mollie Walker on 22 January 2022.
As of her 111th birthday, Mary Keir was the fifth-oldest known living person in the United Kingdom, behind Ethel Caterham, Ada Thompson, Edna Strickland, and Mary Florence Walker.
Mary Keir’s age was meticulously examined and verified by Oliver Trim, GRG Correspondent for the United Kingdom, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) as of June 18, 2023.
