Antonio Urrea Hernández married Isabel Tossas-Bordanova (16 February 1894 – 13 August 1995) on 26 February 1914. Their marriage from 26 February 1914 until 13 August 1995 lasted 81 years, 168 days was the longest marriage ever recorded in Spain. The record was broken by Gelasio Quintana Blanco and Pilar Canibano Rodriguez in 2008.

On 9 September 1997, he became the oldest living person in Spain, following the death of Gregorio Merino-Calvo. On 28 August 1998, he became the oldest living man in Europe, following the death of Antonio Baldo. On 29 April 1999, he became the oldest verified living man in the world, following the death of Denzo Ishisaki.

Antonio Urrea-Hernandez died in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain on 15 November 1999 at the age of 111 years, 270 days. He remains the oldest man ever born in Murcia.
