Oldest age-validated person from St Kitts and Nevis dies
The Gerontology Research Group is saddened to report the passing of Bernice Sebastian at age 112, the oldest age-validated individual born in St Kitts and Nevis.
Bernice Sebastian was born on 21 September 1913 in Saint Kitts and Nevis to Joseph Matthew and Inez Veronica Sebastian. She never married or had any children. Bernice became a teacher and taught in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis before becoming head mistress at a private school, Dieppe Bay, in 1941. She remained there for 25 years before transferring to Irish Town School where she worked until her retirement in 1969.
Soon after her retirement, Bernice moved to Nova Scotia, Canada to live with her sister, Dorette, where she stayed for 27 years. She then moved to Queens, New York, to live with her sister, Elise. In 2005, she moved to Barryville, New York, and in 2011, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she passed away on January 3 2026, aged 112 years, 104 days.
