The oldest man in the Netherlands Jan van Ierland turned 111

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is delighted to report that Mr Jan van Ierland has celebrated his 111 birthday on 05.05.2025.

Joannes Franciscus Alphonsus Aloysius van Ierland was born in Tilburg, North Brabant, Netherlands on 5 May 1914.

In 1944, he married and had six children. He studied physics and later pursued psychology out of personal interest. He worked as a graphic designer.

He became the oldest known living Dutch-born man, following the death of 109-year-old Eelke Bakker on 3 May 2020.

Following the death of 111-year-old Marina van der Es-Siewers on 11 March 2024, he became the oldest living Dutch-born person.

In May 2024, he celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Jan van Ierland currently lives in Bloemendaal, North Holland, Netherlands at the age of 110 years, 276 days.
