Annie Sjöström, the oldest living person in Sweden, dies at 110

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is saddened to report the death of Annie Sjöström, the oldest living person in Sweden, who sadly passed away in Borgholm, Kalmar county, Sweden on 23rd April 2025 at the age of 110 years, 125 days.

Annie Sjöström was born in Gunnarslund on the island of Öland, Kalmar county, Sweden on 19 December 1914. She was one of 12 siblings. At some point, she married Verner Sjöström, and they and had a daughter, Ulla, and a son, Rolf. After her husband passed away in 1977, she moved to Borgholm, Kalmar county the following year.

She is the oldest person ever from the municipality of Borgholm and the oldest person to ever reside in Kalmar county.

On 16 November 2024, following the death of 112-year-old Agnes Boström, she became the oldest living person in Sweden.

On 19 December 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
