Kiyotaka Mizuno, the oldest living man in Japan, celebrated his 111th birthday

Kiyotaka Mizuno celebrated his 111th birthday in 2025

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is delighted to announced the oldest living man in Japan, Kiyotaka Mizuno [Japanese: 水野清隆], just celebrated his 111th birthday on 14 March 2025.

Kiyotaka Mizuno was born in Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan on 14 March 1914. In his youth, he served as a guard for the Emperor and served during the February 26th Incident in 1936 and World War II. After the war, he worked as a farmer, producing shrimp potatoes, green onions, and white leeks until he was over 80. He has four children.

On 23 November 2021, following the death of 107-year-old Kentaro Muramatsu of Yaizu City, he became the oldest living man in Shizuoka Prefecture.

On 21 August 2024, following the death of 110-year-old anonymous man of Tokyo Prefecture, he became the oldest living man in Japan.

His age was verified by Japan’s MHLW, as well as Waclaw Jan Kroczek and Tom Li, and validated by the GRG on 14 September 2024.

Kiyotaka Mizuno currently lives in Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan at the age of 111. He wakes up at 6:30 a.m. and eats three meals every day.
