Irene Lantz turns 111

One of Canada’s oldest people celebrates their 111th birthday.
Irene Perpeluk was born March 2 1914 in Wroxton, Saskatchewan, Canada to Fred and Katie Perpeluk. In 1936 she married her first husband, Carl North, having one son together. Carl, known as Mickey, passed away in 1984. In 2002, Irene married for a second time, this time to Tony Lantz. After the death of her second husband, Irene lived independently until age 104, when she moved into a care facility in Edmonton, where she still lives. She is now the fifth oldest known living person in Canada, but fourth oldest GRG-validated living person in Canada.
