Doyenne of Switzerland passes away at 111

The GRG is sad to report the passing of Anna Furrer-Omlin of Switzerland.

Born Martha Anna Omlin in Sachseln, Obwalden, Switzerland on June 23 1913, she mostly went by Anna. In 1949 Anna married Ambros Furrer and went on to have two children together. She was sadly widowed in 1989.

Anna belonged to the “13er club”, a group of people born in 1913 – she outlived every member. On February 23 2024, she became the oldest known living person in Switzerland upon the death of 111-year-old Marie Guerne.

Anna passed away on February 23 2025 in Erstfeld, Uri, Switzerland, aged 111 years, 245 days.

The GRG extends sincere condolences at this sad time to Anna’s family, friends and all that knew her.
