Revalidation of Betty Weissman (RUS/USA)

Betty Florence Levinson moved to the USA from what was then Dvinsk, Russian Empire, with her family around the age of 12. Dvinsk is now Daugavpils, Latvia. Betty married three times – firstly to Jack Kahn, with whom she had a daughter, then to Sol Siegel and finally to Harry Weissman. During her life, Betty claimed to be born February 11th 1894 and June 29th 1894. In talks with her family around the time of her age validation some years ago, they were unsure exactly when she was born. Originally, this case was verified by the Kestenbaum Study and accepted as such by the GRG. Through a careful revalidation of this case, the GRG has discovered the true age of Betty.

Crucial to finally solving the actual date of birth was finding out her name and parents names in Russian/Latvian before they were anglicized in the US. On finding these and looking at her claimed place of birth, a birth record was found to finally draw a more accurate conclusion. Betty was indeed born where she said, in Dvinsk (now Daugavpils) on July 21 1893 O/S. This works out as August 2 1893 N/S, due to the calendar change. Previously, the GRG had recognised her with the date of birth of June 29 1894, with a final final age 111 years, 289 days. With this new discovery, her final age was 112 years, 255 days.
