Age validation of 112-year old Ilse Meingast, the oldest living person in California and the oldest living German-born person

The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) is pleased to announce that the scientific age validation process of Mrs. Ilse Meingast has been positively completed. Mrs. Meingast was born in Berlin, Germany on 14 March 1912 and presently lives in California, USA, aged 112.

Following the respectful international cooperation on the highest level with the cordial cooperation with the closest Meingast family members, the supercentenarian case of Ilse Meingast was meticulously examined and verified by Stefan Jamin, GRG Correspondent for Germany, Christof Bünte, Wacław Jan Kroczek, and Meingast family, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) 9 September 2024.

Ilse Meingast was born in Berlin, Germany on 14 March 1912. In her 30s, she moved to California, USA. She worked as a seamstress. She had three children, including Ruth Mewes (aged 88 in March 2021).

On 12 March 2021, aged 108, Meingast got vaccinated against COVID-19, making her one of the oldest people to receive the vaccine.

In March 2022, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.

Following the death of 116-year-old Edith “Edie” Ceccarelli, the oldest person in the United States, on 22 February 2024, Meingast became the oldest living resident of California.

Following the death of 114-year-old Charlotte Kretschmann on 27 August 2024, Meingast became the oldest living German-born person.
