Biography
Edith Rose Recagno (known as “Edie”) was born in Willits, Mendocino County, California, USA, on February 5 1908 to parents Agostino (“Augustine”) and Maria (nee Petronaci) Recagno. Her parents were immigrants from Italy.
On November 17 1933 she married Elmer Lawrence Keenan in California, going on to have one child together – a daughter – who may have been adopted. Elmer passed away on May 25 1984, after which Edie married Charles John Ceccarelli in 1986 in California. Charles passed away on November 3 1990, after which Edie remained a widow.
In February 2018 she celebrated her 110th birthday, gaining status as a supercentenarian. This would be the first of seven such occasions.
Edie passed away in a care facility in Willits, Mendocino County, California, on February 22 2024 at the age of 116 years, 17 days. She was the oldest known living person in the US before her passing.
