Marion Dawson, Scotland’s oldest living person, dies at 111
The Gerontology Research Group is saddened to report news that Mrs. Marion Dawson, the oldest living person in Scotland, sadly died in in Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom on 20 July 2024 at the age of 111 years, 183 days.
Marion Dawson was born as Marion Rowatt Bilsland in Houston, Renfrewshire, Scotland, on 19 January 1913 as the youngest of five children born to Alexander and Jane (née Alexander) Bilsland. She married Robert Dawson in 1941 and had two children named Jean and Allan.
On 22 October 2021, following the death of 109-year-old Lois Fraser, she became the oldest living person in Scotland. In January 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
His age was verified by Oliver Trim, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 15 January 2024.
Following her death, the new oldest known living person in Scotland is 108-year-old anonymous woman (born 3 October 1915) of Aberdeen, Scotland.
