Lorna Henstridge, Australia’s oldest living woman, celebrated her 110th birthday

The Gerontology Research Group is pleased to announce that Mrs. Lorna Henstridge, the oldest living woman in Australia and the second-oldest living person in Australia, celebrated her 110th birthday in Bordertown, South Australia, Australia on 6 June 2024.

Lorna Henstridge was born in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia on 6 June 1914, and spent her early years on her parents’ farm near Bute, on the Yorke Peninsula. She met her husband while working at a library for soldiers in World War II and they married in January 1945. They then lived in Victor Harbor and later moved to Keith, in South Australia’s south-east, after buying a menswear store there. They both enjoyed golf, with Ms Henstridge becoming the Keith Golf Club’s secretary for more than 30 years. At the age of 105, she moved from Keith to the nursing home at the Bordertown Memorial Hospital. At the age of 110, she can walks around the garden and the hallways there every day.

She became the oldest living woman in Australia, following the death death 110-year-old Marija Ruljancich on 18 May 2024. The oldest living man and person in Australia is 110-year-old Ken Weeks (born 5 October 1913) of Grafton, New South Wales.
