Edie Ceccarelli (1908-2024)

The GRG is saddened to report the passing of Edith “Edie” Rose Ceccarelli, formerly Keenan, nee Recagno. Edie was born in Willits, Mendocino County, California, on February 5th 1908. Edie was twice married, twice widowed, outliving her last husband by 34 years. She had one daughter – Laureen. Edie lived independently until the age of 107, before moving to the care facility she called home for the rest of her years. Edie became well-known and well-loved in the Willits community, especially following her 100th birthday party, in which she invited the community to celebrate with her.
Edie passed away at age 116 years, 17 days, yesterday – February 22nd 2024 – as the second-oldest known living person in the world, the oldest known living person residing in the United States and California’s oldest known resident ever.
The GRG extends its heart-felt condolences to the family, friends, care staff and all who knew Edie. She was well-loved, a kind soul and great fun. She lived a very long life and reportedly passed quickly and peacefully, from which comfort can be sought at this difficult time.
