Eileen Ash (1911-2021) validation

The GRG announces the age validation of Eileen May Ash, nee Whelan. Eileen was born October 30th 1911 in Highbury, Islington, London, England. Eileen worked for the Civil Service from the age of 18, later seconded to MI6 during the Second World War. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, Eileen played Cricket for England women’s team. In April 1950, she married but did not have any children.

In later life, Eileen remained as active as ever. She played golf until 98, became one of Britain’s oldest known drivers in her centenarian years, took a flight in a Tiger Moth at age 106, rang the bell at Lord’s Cricket Ground at age 105 and opened a sport’s hall in her name at age 107. Eileen lived independently until she was 109, moving into a nursing home in the last few months of her life. She passed away in Norwich, Norfolk, on December 3rd 2021, aged 110 years, 34 years.

Eileen’s age was verified by Waclaw Jan Kroczek and myself, accepted as valid by the GRG with a retroactive date of January 6th 2022.
