Jovan Jovanovic (1906-2016) validation

The GRG announces today the age validation of Jovan Jovanovic. Jovan was born September 16th 1906 in Donji Brceli, a village in Montenegro (then known as the Principality of Montenegro). For a time he lived in Serbia (then Yugoslavia), studying literature and the Russian language. In December of 1943 he married Zagorka, moving to Bosnia with her in 1944. They never had any children. He went on the become a professor of Russian language and philosophy. From 1957 he worked in the university library, staying there until his retirement. Sadly, Zagorka passed away in 1973. During his lifetime, it is reported that Jovan published over 200 scientific papers.

From 1996 onwards, Jovan lived in a care centre in Sarajevo. In December 2012, he became the oldest known living person in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On his 110th birthday in 2016, Jovan became the first known supercentenarian to ever live in Bosnia. Just 15 days after his 110th birthday, Jovan passed away.

His age was verified by Dejan Vujic and Adela Bahto, later accepted by the GRG as validated on October 13th 2023.
