Merah Smith (1912-present) validation

The GRG announces today the validation of Merah Louise Smith, nee McClure. Merah was born in Carron Hall, Saint Mary, Jamaica, on November 9th 1912, to James Nathaniel McClure and Carletta Agatha McClure, nee Anderson. On June 14th 1936, Merah married James Edgar Smith in Saint Mary, Jamaica. They went on to have at least three children before James’s death in the 1950’s. In 1963, Merah moved to England, UK. She worked as a nurse in England, before retiring. Merah remained active for most of her life, even kickboxing at age 103. At the age of 111, Merah is the oldest known Jamaican-born person living. She currently resides in Croydon, London.

Merah’s age was verified by myself and later accepted as validated by the GRG on December 12th 2023.
