Biography
Rose Raubvogel was born in Janow, Austria-Hungary (now Ivano-Frankove, Yavoriv Raion, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine), on January 13 1912 to parents Jacob and Clara Raubvogel.
In 1938 she married Julius Mannheim and the couple moved to Germany (now Poland). The couple had at least one child together. In 1939 the family fled Germany for Shanghai, China, before moving to the US in 1947, settling in New York. In 1949, Rose and Julius divorced in Florida. In 1968 she married Giovanni (known as “John” or “Jack”) Caltagirone (anglicized to “Girone”) in New York City. Rose was widowed in February 1990 and never married again.
In Janaury 2022 she turned 110 and gained supercentenarian status.
Rose passed away in a care facility in Bellmore, Nassau County, New York, on February 24 2025 at the age of 113 years, 42 days.
