Biography

Marion Hunter graced the world with her presence on September 27, 1905, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, born to Lawrence and Louise Ashley. Her father, Lawrence, held the position of President at Northwestern Casket in Minneapolis, while her mother, Louise, worked as a cook. Marion had a lone sibling, Clifford. Growing up in proximity to Lake of the Isles, she attended Calhoun School. Although her childhood dream of becoming a dancer in New York City was thwarted by her parents, Marion pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, actively participating in the Gamma Phi Alpha Sorority. Her love story with her late husband, Bill Hunter, began in high school. They married in 1930 and collaborated to construct an English Tudor-style home in Edina, Minnesota. Unfortunately, Bill passed away in 1995. Marion and Bill were blessed with two daughters, Adele (born 1938) and Diane (born 1940). Marion embraced a life of dance, transitioning from ballet in her youth to ballroom as an adult. Her passion for dance persisted into her later years, with her holding a driver’s license until the age of 99 and requiring minimal medication until she turned 100. However, peripheral neuropathy prompted her use of a wheelchair around 2010, coinciding with the onset of declining eyesight and short-term memory. In September 2015, Marion Hunter marked her 110th birthday, achieving supercentenarian status. Her remarkable journey concluded on August 2, 2016, in Bloomington, Minnesota, at the age of 110 years and 310 days.
