Born in Ibaraki, Japan, on the final day of 1904, Kuni Onose’s life unfolded across the canvas of time, witnessing the turning of countless pages in history. A testament to her resilience and the grace with which she embraced the passage of time, Kuni held the esteemed title of the oldest living person in Ibaraki Prefecture.
Her legacy began to take root with the passing of an anonymous woman from Chikusei (06.11.1904 – 16.05.2015). in 2015, a torch she dutifully carried until her final breath. Kuni Onose became a living embodiment of the rich history and cultural tapestry of Ibaraki.
On the 5th of February 2018, at the age of 113 years and 36 days, Kuni Onose bid farewell to this world, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and endurance. Her departure marked the end of an era, and as the hands of time continued to turn, the honor of being the oldest person in Ibaraki Prefecture was gracefully passed on to the capable hands of then 110-year old Mitsuko Uesugi.
